DVB-H is a new digital video terrestrial broadcasting standard especially for mobile data and multimedia service to handheld terminals based on DVB-T standard. Combining digital video broadcasting technology with mobile communication technology and IP technology, it makes mobile video service on cell phone available. To avoid video distortion, DVB-H standard adopts several kinds of error correction codes, including RS code, to protect video data in channel. Inheriting from DVB-T, DVB-H uses RS(204,188) code as outer coding solution. Meanwhile, RS(255,191) code is employed to protect MPE-FEC frame for its high error correction ability. The research on encoding and decoding theory of RS code and then ASIC implementation is the body of this paper, in which the syndrome polynomial module, key equation solver (KES) module and Chien&Forney module in RS decoder are researched in a large of pages. A new implementation method, which is based on conventional MEA but is able to reduce calculations on the degree of polynomial, is proposed and then implemented on the KES module of RS(204,188) decoder. Besides, based on the MEA cell structure in ref[28], improvements are made to reduce circuit scale and accelerate decoding rate. These improvements are applied on the KES module of RS(255,191) decoder. All the encoders and decoders of RS(255,191) and RS(204,188) are programmed in Verilog HDL, and simulated and testified in ISE8.1 tool. |
