As the rapid development of mobile telecommunication, the third generation (3G) network is moving toward a successful commercial stage.From the global development, the development of 3G is uneven, like Europe, Korea and Japan; services based on 3G is provided in these countries. But 3G network is only in the small-scale lab in China. Now the researchs of evolution solutions from 2G to 3G are getting more important for providers in China.In this paper, in premises of the research of the field of mobile telecommunication development, with the mobile telecommunication network planning and design experience of author, how to achieve coexistence of 2G and 3G core-network, and how to improve network efficiency and security, are focused in this paper.Firstly, the features, main protocols and interfaces of soft-switch are discussed with soft-switch technology. Subsequently, solution based on soft-switch and IP carrier network is used to solve the redundancy problem; as for other circuit-switch network, the MGW backup is used to achieve redundancy through the A-interface cut over. The last discussion is about the strategy of network evolution. Firstly, the public core-network solution is provided to resolve the resource optimization issues of 2/3G coexistence network, and the advantages and disadvantages of solution are discussed as well. Then, with the introduction of POOL concept, after the analysis of the characteristics of urban users and functional principle of MSC POOL and SGSN POOL, the results of POOL simulations tell the advantages of Pool network, and show the network principles correspondingly. Meanwhile, the functional choice of MGW and the corresponding network are used to optimize internal network.Finally, with the summary of opinion above, the view of core-network development in the future will become reference and basis to providers.
