With the rapid development of IT and the increase of entertainment, 3 networks (Telephone, Computer and TV) are being merged together to carry voice, data and video, which is called triple-play. On the other hand, it also happens in our home (TV set, Computer and Information Appliance). IPTV is the outcome of triple-play, it offers kinds of services, such as Broadcasting TV, VOD, Timeshifting, etc. IPTV has become the core of Digital Home.IP network is designed to transmit data, but TV is a video service, which needs high bandwidth, real time and QoS ensurement. Therefore there are many problems to carrier IPTV on the original IP network. In China, most IP network can't meet the needs without rebuilding. It's just the keypoint of the thesis to discuss how to transmit TV in the existed network environment.It introduces the composing of IPTV system and some key technologies, such as video encoding and decoding, streaming media. According to the feature of IPTV, the demands to carrier network are summarized. The most important of access network are security, multicast, multiple services, broad bandwidth and QoS ensurement. PPPoE should be replaced by DHCP to support multicast. In the field of core network, it demonstrates the application of multicast route protocol. The advantage and disadvantage of different network topologies(tree, ring). It brings forward the thought of rebuild the existed network in the first step and build a special video network after big scale deployment. It also researches the CDN from the aspects of storage efficiency, ROCA, content management and routing. To assure the internet surfing of PC, the thesis presents 2 PVCs and 2 VLANs solution to separate the video and data. With low cost, it can improve the QoS of IPTV and ensure the quality of Internet surfing. The thesis Innovatively demonstrates the solution of provide both IPTV and PC streaming media services on one CDN carrier network. It not only brings more flow to the exsited CDN, but also save the cost of IPTV network. The workload of maintenance can be reduced too.IPTV has diplex genes of TV and Internet, it'll be influenced by the developments and technical improvements in both two fields. For example, P2P is able to be replanted in STB from Internet to replace multicast BTV solution on IP network with lower cost. HD is more and more popular in DTV, and is also the future of IPTV. It brings more rigorous demands to the carrier network, so the special video network will be the best choice. With the development of IPTV, the number of subscribers will increase ceaseless. It'll be very important to analyze the network flow and user behaviors to adjust the CDN and bandwidth, so that IPTV can be run safer and more stable. Optimization will be another emphasis of the work in the future.
