Orthogonal experiment is an efficient and economical scientific experimental method as an important analysis method in technical and quality improvement. It is suitable for experimental occasion of studying many factors and levels.Painting color of cell phone is mainly controlled by paint supplier adjusting paint. But it also can be affected by painting technical parameters. In order to resolve color difference issue in painting process of cell phone, the paper applied orthogonal experimental design method to do color difference evaluation experiment, studied the effects of some painting technical parameters in production and their interactions upon painting color difference. The paper applied variance analysis method to analyze effect degrees of these parameters on color difference and found the painting technical parameters with significant effect and their best values. The painting quality of cell phone was improved by the study of the paper.The study contents of the paper include: evaluation of painting color control capability with process capability index Cpk, detailed application process of orthogonal experimental design including experiment plan making, experimental factors and levels selection, orthogonal table selection and disposal and experiment data analysis with variance analysis method etc. The orthogonal experiments in the paper are done with two stages. They are selection orthogonal experiment and optimization orthogonal experiment. The main purpose of selection orthogonal experiment is to find significant factors and the main purpose of optimization orthogonal experiment is to find the best values of the significant factors. The paper also applied Minitab software to analyze the experiment data and got the same experiment result with the one used variance analysis method. At last, the paper did an experiment to verify the best values of painting technical parameters got from orthogonal experiment. The verification result stated that the studying result from the paper improved obviously the color control capability of painting process.The experiment and study in the paper provided a feasible studying method to resolve the color difference issue in painting production of cell phone. It also can be used for reference by other processes for improving technical parameters.
