This paper is based on the research of knowledge management implementation in IT department of UGS Company. IT department in UGS Company (hereafter called the company) is responsible for global networking, system architecture, user support etc. With the growth of the company, IT department is facing the problems of people shortage, decreased expense and increased users'requirement. It is a big challenge for IT to position itself and improve service level. Knowledge management can solve these problems.Knowledge management, as one of important management domain, has over twenty years'history already. Knowledge management is the systematic management of vital knowledge and its associated processes of generation, transfer, acquisition, storage and update. Knowledge management, through knowledge accumulation, can help enterprise to lower cost, improve efficiency, and drive the business continually development with successful innovation.After researching current knowledge management platforms in the market and their weakness, considering company actual status, we decide to implement knowledge management platform based on collaboration technique.Collaboration technique is developed quickly in recent years. This is not only because of the improvement of computer, networking, communication techniques, but also the demand of company development globally. The collaboration can break the barrier and boundary of the resources– people, information and workflow etc, making all working together. At root, the collaboration is consistent with knowledge management.So it is a good way to setup knowledge management platform based on collaboration. This paper presents the research of collaboration knowledge platform based on Microsoft SharePoint technique and the implementation in IT department. It mainly includes the design of collaboration platform. It also includes systematic solution for the problems occurred during knowledge management process. It enables users to access information, documents and people in a fast way and to discover relevant knowledge.Finally, after researching ITIL, a good framework in IT service management field, the collaboration process is designed based on collaboration platform. Together with legacy systems, depending on this platform, it focuses more on knowledge gathering, storage and inheritance through the process. It improves knowledge management level and develops the company continually.With the practice in IT department, this collaboration platform brings benefits to the employees, easily communication with enlarging collaboration scope on knowledge management. Combining with ITIL is also a good point in this paper.Now we began to push this platform to whole company already.
