At present, with ships increased on the sea, the maritime communication becomes more congested. In the situation of mass communication and marine task where the amount of shipping are great, it is hard to avoid the phenomena that the call is unsuccessful caused by channel congestion. For this circumstance, on the basis of widely used maritime VHF communication, this paper provides the application of Ad Hoc network in maritime communication.Mobile Ad Hoc network (MANET) is a new self-organized network which has no center nodes and immobile nodes, it can provide more convenient communication without basic frameworks, and can enlarge the application fields of mobile communication. When the ships are too far from others to communicate by the fixed seacoast network structure, MANET can be a good choice to solve the problems. In the thesis, the characteristics and system structures of mobile Ad Hoc network are introduced. In order to fit the maritime communication characteristics, AODV protocol was chosen to build the new system. Then the protocol building, management, maintenance and QoS are studied. The simulation results of the present maritime communication and Ad Hoc network, which were made by NS-2, showed that Ad Hoc network could optimize the maritime communication parameters to some extent, such as communication area, packet delivery ratio, end to end delay, routing overhead, etc.On the basis of the theory analysis above, designed a maritime communication simulating platform combined with DMU-V.Dragon Simulation System, the simulating platform carried out an intuitionistic simulation in the LAN. The software flow charts and module realization are given also. These all provide theoretics and technological platform supports to the later study of the project.
