The world economic development is facing the important requirements of ocean fishery, marine oil and gas exploration, and ocean environment monitoring in ocean areas. Designing a cost-efficient, reliable, flexible, efficient, and service-rich communication system that can fully cover sea region including both offshore and high ocean areas is a highly concerning research issue in electronic communication field.TRITON Model was developed by Singapore Research group led by Jaya Shankar Pathmasuntharam in2007, which is a low-cost and high speed maritime ship-to-ship/shore mesh network to complement or replace satellite communications in narrow water channels or traffic lanes close to shorelines. It was brought into sharp attention by researchers. To better understand the maturity, characteristics and capability of TRITON Model, This thesis verifies and improves the model.In doing so, the thesis first reviews the maritime communication research and identifies significant trends in focusing on research on the theory and key technologies for wireless transmission and mobile communications networking. Second, the thesis tests and verifies high speed and low cost advantages of maritime communication of the model from the aspects of high level architecture, network characteristics, the implementation of the prototype, and link performance measurement. And then, the thesis evaluates, validates, and mends TRITON Model. Finally, the thesis improves the model by replenishing parameters obtained from the wave motion model, double path reflection model, and a cloud of rain attenuation and fading model in order to make it more appropriate to maritime wireless communication environment and to the requirements of applications. A new model mended was simulated. Results have shown that the mended model is more appropriate to maritime wireless communication environment.
