After the reform and opening up, as China's rapid economic take-off, the shipping industry is developing rapidly, the rapid growth of China Shipping, the ship frequently and from the large number of major ports and maritime traffic thoroughfare, and the large ships, high-speed, the port number and the expansion of the scale, port facilities and port cargo traffic-increasing the prosperity of the shipping service industry and other factors have increased the difficulty of the management of shipping and bring varying degrees of baled interference, navigational efficiency, GA accidents increase the efficiency of port operations not high, and low efficiency of rescue incidents, the shipping sector have become an important problem to be solved. But with Geographic Information Systems development and progress, particularly digital terrestrial, digital communications, and other theories put forward for our shipping intelligent building systems, improving maritime transport, port-related use of facilities maintenance and the management of the status quo, and provide theoretical support technical support.Geography Information Systems development started in the 1960s, with the simultaneous development of computer technology. Geographic Information System on the basis of geospatial database in the computer hardware, with the support of space data acquisition, management, operation, analysis, query, and display simulation, and use of geographic model analysis method, provides a wide range of timely and dynamic space geographic information, research and policy-making for the geographic service set up computer technology systems. Geographic Information System through nearly 50 years of development has been widely used in various fields of social life. Marine Geographic Information System is currently used in the maritime sector generally based on the relational database information system does not feature: Geographic Information System has intuitive display important statistical analysis, feature information, and a powerful spatial analysis and prediction, as well as spatial reasoning and decision-making. In addition, the Marine in the Geographic Information System information, such as the location of the ship in port, port location, pollution emergency equipment distribution and so on can be associated with spatial location, the introduction of spatial information processing and GIS technology is the inevitable choice.Based on the information management system for port study as the starting point, through a GIS(Geographic Information System) for the development of specific examples of Geographical Information Systems in the management of shipping the application of theories and methods were discussed, including electronic chart data display and port-related data integration and management is the main content.
