Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) is a multi-hop wireless network temporarily and dynamically formed by a collection of mobile hosts without the use of any preexisting network infrastructure or centralized administration. Due to its self-organization, rapid deployment and absence of any fixed infrastructure, MANET is applied in many domains, such as disaster recovery, distributed collaborative computing and battlefields automation.Because of the frequent moving of the hosts, which results in the network topology varing, routing is a key and difficult issue in MANET. An effective routing protocol is important, which can shield upper layer application from the lower layer adverse factors and supply a stable, reliable and high efficient communication. With the dynamic and variable topology, those traditional routing protocols cannot be applicable to MANET and new routing protocols must be designed. Recently, some special routing protocols for MANET are presented, such as AODV, DSR and DSDV. However, the study of routing technology for MANET is still in the initial stages, and it needs a further research and development to improve.Because mobile hosts are usually battery-operated in MANET, the whole network will break up if some hosts stop working because of out of energy. Decreasing the energy consumption and lengthening the lifetime of mobile hosts become key issues. A new DSR-based energy-aware routing strategy-WEADSR (Weighted Energy-Aware Routing based on DSR)-is proposed and analyzed, which synthesize minimize energy consume strategy and maximize network lifetime strategy together.However, most routing protocols are single path routing protocols, which are using only one path to transfer packets. These protocols need a new discovery whenever a path breaks. Such frequent route discoveries increases the end-to-end delay and routing overhead. To avoid such problem, a new DSR-based Multipath routing strategy-MDMSR (Most Disjointed Multipath Source Routing)-is proposed. This strategy purposes to find most disjointed multipath without increasing the routing overhead.This paper's research is about energy-saving and multipath routing algorithms. Finally, paper realized the energy-saving routing algorithm (WEADSR) and the multipath routing algorithm (MDMSR) in OPNET. Through extensive simulation experiments and deep analysis, the performance of the protocols is thoroughly evaluated. The dissertation concludes with the summarization of present research work and the prospect of further research work.
