The pumping unit is one of the most important facilities in oil production. In order to increase the crude output and save energy, keep the pumping unit running in normal and scientific state is necessary and important. Now there are two main problems in the maintenance and management of pumping unit as following:(1) Most of the wells are perambulated and detected by people. The wells administrative center can't get the parameters and running information of pumping units in good time. This affects the right decision to the well production. In addition, we need to stop the pumping unit rapidly when some malfunctions happened, such as short circuit or one phase lost. But this is difficult to achieve by traditional manner.(2) After the pumping unit running a long time, pumping off often happens in some low permeable areas. The pumping unit will work in low load or zero load under this situation. If it continues working in such situation, the mechanical and electrical energy will be wasted a lot.In view of these two problems, we designed an Ethernet based remote control system for the pumping units. Special equipment is installed in the filed, which is responsible for the monitoring and data sampling. This equipment connects to the host computer through the Internet. So it's easy to actualize the network management for large numbers of pumping units. The current sampling, voltage sampling and power factor calculating are completed by ARM based monitoring devices, which are located in the well sites. Then the data is transmitted to the host computer for farther processing in real time. Besides, the field monitoring modules have the functions of malfunctions diagnosis and pumping off judgment. It can response quickly when some malfunctions happen to the pumping units. And it also can calculate the stand by time of the pumping unit according to the formula of fluid build-up when pumping off happened. Using the powerful network function and self-contained figures controlling tool in LabVIEW, the virtual instrument based host computer is easy to finish the data package processing and waveform displaying. Also the host computer can do the job of data storage and analysis by using the database link kit and data analysis tool in LabVIEW. By doing this, we can offer some useful information for the advanced research and control in oil production.This design combined several popular technologies at present, such as ARM, virtual instrument, Ethernet and so on. It proposes a good solution to the problems exit in the pumping unit management now. Also this system has the characters of high automation and good effect in saving energy. If it can be used in oilfield, the management of pumping units will become convenient.According to the requirements of system, I finished the designs of hard ware, software and the pumping off control policy. Experiments and simulations had proved that each module can work in logical. It can meet the basic requirements of remote controlling for pumping units. And it also left some development space for the future research.
