The mobile Ad hoc network (MANET) is a wireless network established without any aid of infrastructure, and it has characteristics of mobility, distribution, multi-hop etc. Each node in MANET acts as both terminal and router, which collects routes and forwards packets. It is an extreme challenge research subject for such network due to the dynamical topology change, bandwidth limitation and power constraint. The thesis outlines MANET and analyses several key technologies for MANET. The traditional wired network routing protocol are not suitable for network topology frequent changes, energy constraints and other characteristics described in the Ad Hoc network. It also describes representative routing protocol, and gives a comparison and analysis with each other. In order to make effective use of network resources (such as nodes energy and link bandwidth) and increase both network capacity and lifetime, the thesis designs the nodes residual energy and energy cost velocity-based routing protocol for Ad hoc network. On the one hand, the protocol avoid network split as target, and protect lower energy nodes in the network, on the other hand it considers the link bandwidth conditions, to prevent network congestion, balances traffic of more energy nodes. Through plenty of simulation, it shows better performance on network lifetime, packet delivery fraction and average packets end-end delay than representative ad hoc routing protocol. The thesis makes use of NS2, and based on the performance analysis in the traditional routing methods, it proposes a weighted routing performance analysis method which considers nodes energy consumption in the process of moving. Then it simulates both the table-driven route protocol and the on-demand route protocol. The approach considers both ad hoc routing performance, energy consumption and many other factors. It has certain guide for the design of highly efficient and energy-saving routing protocol.
