The routing protocols of Mobile Ad hoc Network are mainly studied in this paper. The three classical routing protocols-DSR, AODV and DSDV are simulated andtheir performances are compared. The working mechanism of AODV is analyzed detailedly, and AODV are optimized associating the energy conservation mechanism and energy protection strategy. Besides, an on-demand driven routing protocol based energy protected that is EP-AODV is brought forward. The definition, trait, structure, applications and study actuality are introduced briefly first. In succession, the routing protocols are classified in three different standards. Besides, the three most popular network simulation software at present that are OPNET, GloMoSim and Network Simulation version 2(NS-2) are introduced, and their advantage and disadvantage are analyzed and compared.Afterwards, the three routing protocols discussed above are simulated in NS-2 simulation software. Besides, the simulation results are presented in different movement and flow scene. Next, the performances of the three routing protocols are analyzed through the results of simulations, whicn is mostly focused on the three performances index, packet delivery ratio, average end-to-end delay and routing overhead. The results of simulation and performance evaluation can offer some valuable reference for the scientific researchers who study mobile ad hoc network.Last, based on the research of the energy conservation mechanism and energy protection strategy in MAENT, the optimized program and procedure designing of EP-AODV are given, and the simulation of EP-AODV in NS is implemented. After being simulated and data analyzed, the result is that EP-AODV has a better network performance than AODV, and that EP-AODV can suspend the splitting of network and can prolong the existing time of network. The work has a very important meaning for studying the energy conservation routing arithmetic.
