MANET (Mobile Ad Hoc Network) is a type of wireless self-organizing network, which could realize flexible and convenient communication without any support of conventional infrastructure. Due to its characteristics, easy to spread rapidly, strong overall survivability and low system costs, MANET is widely applied in many domains,such as modern battlefield, field scientific expedition, disaster relief, industrial site monitoring, etc.MANET lacks support of communication infrastructure, and network topology changes dynamically. Therefore many new problems and challenges, which differ from traditional networks', occur in MANET technology. Thus the key issue to be resolved in MANET is that how to design simple and efficient routing protocol in order to find the route rapidly and accurately. At present, IETF MANET Working Group is committed to the standardization of MANET protocols. In addition, in MANET, energy issue not only affect the network performance but also be related to the lifetime of the entire network. Therefore, the energy issue is a hot issue of MANET.DSR is a type of on-demand routing protocols based on source routing in MANET, which plays a very important role in the Ad Hoc Network due to many of its advantages, and yet still need to be improved. In the dissertation, based on the DSR routing protocol, considering the limited energy of network nodes, Energy-Aware Routing Protocol based on DSR(EADSR-1) is proposed. In EADSR-1, the remaining energy of the network node is considered to adjust the forwarding delay time of RREQ, so that the node delay of low energy can have access to networks, and thus a longer network lifetime is obtained. Subsequently, the further algorithm EADSR-2 is raised based on EADSR-1, in which the threshold of residual energy of nodes is set to further balance the node energy consumption rate, so as to improve network energy consumption.In the dissertation, routing algorithms based on energy considerations is studied, and with NS-2 network simulator the proposed energy routing algorithms EADSR-1 and EADSR-2 codes are realized. Then, through the simulation experiments and data analysis, the effectiveness of the algorithm in extending lifetime of network is confirmed.Finally, the dissertation concludes with the summarization of present research work and the prospect of further research works.
