Digital video processing is a kind of digital signal processing technology faced to diversity of digital television formats. With the developments of digital television industry and digital video technology, a lot of video formats coexist in HDTV, SDTV and video formats of computer in current video field. The ability to convert formats from one type to another become indispensable in modern high end TV set. Hence, how to enhance the video quality through the digital process technology is the main task in the researches of image processing chip.The realization procedure of the video processing system based on the FPGA XC3s400 of Xilinx Co. is introduced in this paper. The procedure is the important step for the further integrate circuit design, which verify the system functionality and effect as well.By thoroughly study of the currently algorithms for video format conversions in the digital video field, an alternative method of image scaling appropriate for FPGA implementation is proposed. There are two main aspects included, the algorithm of display resolution conversion and secondly frame frequency up-conversion. On the video format conversion algorithms, an algorithm for unlimited display resolution conversion is discussed and performed. This algorithm has the merits such as lower computational complexity, and relative simply hardware architecture etc. On the other hand, a 50Hz-75Hz frame frequency up-conversion algorithm is carried out. The proposed algorithm takes advantage of original information as well as decreases the defects attribute to computing.The color space conversion method has also been investigated as well. The theories and conversion algorithms of color space are summarized, and the FPGA hardware implementation of conversion algorithm is carried out.All the algorithms and architectures discussed in this dissertation have been verified on the Xilinx FPGA platform, and then have been simulated and synthesized successfully. Some of the modules have been run in the practical project.
