To achieve 'from the farm to the table' in the entire process of food safety control mechanism, we need to establish the quality tracking system of agricultural products.The fundamental purpose of establishing the quality tracking system of agricultural products is to identify identity of agricultural products and to establish agricultural product quality archives;Once something is wrong with the quality of agricultural products, the problem can be traced to the link and its producers, then effective measures can be taken to rectify the wrong. Through the establishment of quality tracking system we can ensure maximum reliability, stability, and a new mechanism of continuously improving the quality of products.At present, the weak link of the quality tracking system of agricultural products is the quality control in the stage of agricultural production. As agricultural production cycle is longer, more decentralized production activities, therefore, the activities of agricultural production is very difficult to be effectively monitored. The main content of this stage is to collect quality track record of pesticide, fertilizer use and irrigation, seeding and harvest informations; and ecological pollution occurred mainly due to pesticide residues at this stage, therefore main content of this paper is to explore ways of reasonably effective quality control in the agricultural production stage.The agricultural production quality tracking system designed by this paper includes the handset and the PC Software. The operator uses handset to keep records of information on the farm activities, the information is preserved in the memory of the handset;PC saves the archives of agricultural informations transmitted from the hanset by RS232, and real-time via the Internet.The main content of this paper is the hardware and software design of the handset for the system of collecting agricultural informations.The handset operates and manages of agricultural informations by multi-storey menu,and agricultural informations stored in the handset can transmit to the PC database by the RS232 interface with the protocol designed for communication.The handset hardware consists of microcontroller,flash memory chips,LCD display,power supply systems,real-time clock,keyboard circuit,etc;C51 software modularization was used for the software design of the handset.The main functions of the handset are the multi-storey menu-operation,information access and retrieval of high-capacity,real-time clock and master-slave message transmission.The main software architecture is message-driven foreground/background structure, proceeded by interrupt-driven (timer, and serial) operation.The Preliminary system design had finished and the test was successful in the demonstration base, and the test result initially meets the design requirements;With the handset we can save farming informations as paperless electronic records,and the database technology is convenient for the statistics and release of farming informations;But the entire system may be improved combined with the actual agricultural production status.This paper was funded by the state support of science and technology project 'Key technologies of information and system design for the stage of agricultural products circulation', which was presided over by the National Engineering Research Center for Information Technology in Agriculture.
