WSN (Wireless Sensor Network), a new intelligent control and monitoring network combining sensor technology with computer and communication technology, has become a hot spot in the field of wireless communication. It is data-oriented and self-organizing compared with traditional control and monitoring networks. Modern control and monitoring network require low power consumption, low cost and safety, so, ZigBee technology emerges and offers good opportunity for WSN.The author in this paper designs a WSN based on ZigBee. Function and implementation cost are served as criteria for selecting Jennic JN5121-MO module as the main part to design node hardware in the network. The architecture and criteria of ZigBee protocol are analyzed, at the base of which software includes coordinator and end device programs are designed based on Jennic ZigBee protocol to collect environmental data. Network structure and pre-designed functions are tested with WiniZB NCTool and serial port communication interface.The realized network has the advantages such as low implementation cost and small scale. Tests results indicate that the WSN is compatible with mesh topology. Parameters such as temperature, humidity and brightness are collected after the network works. The network can be applied in fields such as domestic environment control and monitoring.
