Enhancement And Extension In Resource Management For YAWL

Hospital is a process-based organization, and the basic object of workflow technology is to exchange documents, information and tasks among several participants according to predefined rules automatically to achieve certain objects. Thus, it is meaningful to build hospital information system based on workflow technologies.Resource management and task distribution is one of the most important functions of workflow system. It will increase the efficiency of business process greatly if the resource distribution is optimized. However, most workflow systems nowadays have some common problems in complex medical context, for example:●They can only support some of the workflow resource patterns;●In most systems, the resource management process is bound with workflow engine, so it can not deal with case-specific resource management.Therefore, in this dissertation, we want to enhance the resource management role in YAWL by extending its worklist service. The major tasks are:●Based on the observation of current workflow system and resource patterns, modeling the resource management process with CPN and simulating this model with CPN Tools.●Extending the worklist service in YAWL to enhance the resource management in YAWL system.Via above tasks, the worklist service in YAWL was extended to support resource management and task distribution. It can support 38 of the 43 workflow resource patterns. And by modifying the definition files, user can appoint different strategies for the same task. However, there are still some defects in current system, so our tasks in the next phase is to improve the resource management model, model the evaluation of the resource management efficiency and at last implement an intelligent resource manager.
