With the development of high power microwave technology, its application in military is also becoming widespread. However, we should have the clear mind that there exist the potential risks with using high power microwave. Therefore, it has become a very important topic how to prevent high power microwave from damaging the electronic equipment and personnel. This paper reviews and analyzes the destructive effects of high-power microwave and the corresponding protective methods, and also offers some measures in terms of its potential applications in the future battlefield. Moreover, this paper also briefs the mechanism of electromagnetic shielding and the relevant calculation method, and gives a test for the effectiveness of anechoic chamber, protective material, and simple microwave baffle wall. The results have the great meaning for enhancing its safety function for the electronic equipment and the personnel.Firstly, it expounds the development of high power microwave technology and introduces the background on the topic and the key meaning of this research.Secondly, it analyzes the destructive effects of high power microwave and explains the process of the destructive process of high power microwave to the electronic equipment and the biological effects on the human body.Thirdly, it gives the general methods of defending high power microwave and discourses upon the technology of reinforcing the electronic equipment, offers some measures in the battlefield. Finally, it analyzes the shielding mechanism, introduces the calculation method of shielding effectiveness, and gives a detailed explanation on the characteristics of microwave defense to the anechoic chamber, protective material, and simple microwave baffle wall.
