Infrared warning system possesses ultra-low detecting ability, good self-concealment ability and is hard to be disturbed by the electronic equipments of enemies, so it has become an important assistant of Radar. However, only the direction of objects can be detected by this system, and the detailed distance information of the objects can not be provided. Therefore, it is an important job to research the infrared warning system based on the passive ranging technology.First of all, the inland and overseas evolution of warship based infrared warning systems are introduced, and the actuality of ranging technology of naval ships is analyzed. Secondly, the infrared transmission characteristic of sea surface, the sea-sky background infrared characteristic, the infrared radiation characteristic of object (cruise missile) and the crucial technological parameters of infrared warning system are analyzed. Finally, two methods which can be used in passive infrared ranging are researched, and an passive ranging system is design based on the infrared warning system equipped in warships, and then the efficiency of the ranging system is studied. This paper is beneficial and valuable for research of infrared passive ranging technology.
