In vod systems, the bottleneck of servers and backbone networks can be relieved much by P2P technology. But lack of peers which use a same media and have a similar procedure render the advantage of P2P system not able to fully perform. This thesis conquers this problem by taking advantage of the characteristic of static of multi-media resources in P2P systems. By storing data on disk while using medium, peers have more chances to provide services for other peers. Our work: PPVoD system, is designed and implemented according to the thoughts described above, which has several important features as below: a three-layer storage system is set at client peers; using segmented storage at client end while storing complete medium at edge server; using segmented indexing at track-server; and, P2P technology for performance optimization is used, etc.The thesis introduces five segment-replacement strategies, including FIFO, LRU, HOT, DUPS, SUPP. The result of emulation shows that SUPP leads to a better effect than other strategies do. The weakening of edge server's locality and the necessity of background server are also demonstrated by emulations. |
