With the advent of the information era, database has become the cornerstone of information management systems. Today, enterprises, government agencies and universities have built numerous database systems in different data formats and system platforms. These database systems can generally fulfill the needs of their customers individually. When it comes to the application of integrating these scattered data sources together, however, these database systems are greatly challenged due to the fact that they are implemented on different system platforms, by complicated database techniques and for different objects. These isolated data sources have then become the obstacle of information analysis and thus greatly influence the decision-making of the enterprise adversely. With the continuously growing needs of customers, it thus provided a challenge of how to integrate these data sources effectively and efficiently.This work provides a solution to this problem. While maintaining the original data format and information in scattered data sources unchanged, constructing information integration platform, integrating existing infrastructure and application systems. In this project, we choose Brower/Server (B/S) software architecture to build this enterprise heterogeneous database integration system. The system consists of three-layer structure, which includes a user layer, a logic layer and a data layer. The logic layer, being the core of entire system, helps customer implement the operation of data access and query. The logic layer consists of Web server and middleware, which can be subdivided into four parts: metadata, wrapper, query processors and results processor. XML language is used to describe the data in original databases, which has been proved to be effective ways of eliminating the heterogeneity among different systems. In this paper, taking an electronic product manufacturing enterprises as the background, we use XML and Java programming technology to construct the enterprise heterogeneous database integration system based on the HDBIS framework proposed above. The system gives users of different operating authority, and achieves data sharing and collaboration between departments. The paper discusses some key technologies in detail in the process of system implementation.
