The PCI bus is the most popular computer local bus with its advantages such as high performance, lost cost, openness, processor independence, software transparent etc. In the area of the embed-system, many IPs are designed on the base of PCI bus. The thesis develops a design and verification of PCI north bridge based on the embed-system using ARM9 microprocessor as the system CPU.The thesis first introduces the embedded-system architecture based on ARM processor, and deeply studies PCI2.2 bus specification, based on which presents a design of PCI north bridge based on ARM. The whole design is implemented as three main models partitioned according to function, the thesis focuses on the realization of PCI master interface, PCI target interface and PCI arbiter. For the PCI master interface and PCI target interface, the thesis elaborates them through the realization of data path and controlling logic. For the PCI Arbiter, the design using two-level round-robin arbitration algorithm, realize the bus arbitration through a series of device ID register. The thesis also introduces the signal synchronization on different clock area and PCI internal configure registers.Then the thesis introduces a verification mentality based on platform. We can realize verification efficiently through the platform. The thesis focuses on the building of verification platform and the establishment of the functional models and introduces a series of command bus, through which controlling the verification flow. The thesis also introduces the script which increasing the automation level. The verification platform and script are reusable and transplantable.The thesis completes the register transition layer design and function verification of the PCI north bridge. Finally, the PCI north bridge is used in the microprocessor based on ARM and satisfies the function requirement and is of high performance. The thesis gives the discussion on the subsequent design of PCI products.
