Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems ,which can provide higher capacity gain and communication quality over limited spectrum, have been a hot topic in recent years. The signal detection in MIMO wireless communication systems ("MIMO detection") is a key problem in MIMO system-related research that can never be bypassed. Based on the simple analyses of the MIMO system, this paper discusses and compares the performance and the complexity of the detection algorithms of layered space-time codes. Then introduces the multiple-antenna system used of the iterative techniques, which is based on the principle of the Turbo iterative decode. The optimum maximum a posteriori (MAP) detector based on the M-algorithm has high complexity which is due to the fact that the MAP detector performs an exhaustive search over the entire set of possible transmitted symbol vectors. At last, this paper discusses that, for high-order QAM modulation formats, the complexity of the ITS detector can be further reduced with the aid of a special type of Bit Mapping called Multi-level Bit Mappings. Simulation results demonstrate that the ITS detection offers good performance gain with lower complexity.
