The wide use of IR electro-optical system in the weapons requires new methods during the proving ground. In order to qualify the weapons performance, more targets with different infrared signature must be provided in so far as possible. According to this requirement, the matrix form thermal target simulator with convenient motion system is studied as following items in this paper.First through analyzing the target and background IR model, this paper studies the technology of target and background construction using computer skills, and gives the connection between target temperature distribution and image grey scale. Second, it gives the construction of target unit, designs one type of heater plate on the basis of electric heating principle, that is etch some copper wires with certain resistance, arrangement thickness on PCB. This method provides the thermal target temperature homogeneity. And then the Fuzzy-PID complex controller is designed in this paper to control the target unit's temperature by means of point to point. At last, according to the temperature test data of 7×7 principium thermal target, this paper uses least square method principle to modify the thermal target simulator's control temperature, and with the result that the thermal target simulator's temperature homogeneity is calibrated.
