In consequence of entering the network economical time, markets are linked by the internet, consumers pursue personalization and diversification, and productive demands require customization. Meanwhile, the production pattern turns into the single unit, the small batch, and the multi-varieties; the technological resources could be distributed worldwide; the key factors of competition change into the product flexibility and the response speed. Therefore, the WEB based long-distance collaborative operation environment has become a hot research direction of computer network application.Based on the analysis of the existing collaborative operation system and current widely used video communication system, the thesis designs a WEB-based long-distance collaborative operation system to meet the needs of customers who use the collaborative operation system to interactively communicate with the producer in real time in the phases of product order, design, and production. Upon the platform, customers and designers communicate in the visualization collaborative operation environment. Users exchange information by utilizing the electronic whiteboard with characters, simple graphics, and pictures as well as by utilizing sound and images. The direct participation of customers in the design can lead to more personalized products, which are of competitiveness in the network economical time. At the same time, the designer can also contact the accessory suppliers in real-time to reduce the product's design and production cycle.This thesis first presents the rationale and related concepts relevant to the system design. Then it introduces the design of WEB based long-distance collaborative operation system in detail, mainly including the electronic whiteboard, the audio/video frequency transmission, the audio/video frequency RTP stream's process of capture, memory, transmission and playback, etc. Furthermore, the electronic whiteboard is implemented through JAVA APPLET as follows. When the browser is used to link the Applet home page, the Applet will run and consequently connect the whiteboard server with TCP protocol. The audio/video frequency interactive function is mainly realized by JMF (Java Media Framework) and RTP stream technology.
