This thesis is based on the project of the National Development and Reform Commission—"IPv6 wireless sensor networks nodes", focusing on design and implementation of routing protocol and application software in wireless sensor networks.Based on in-depth research of the structure, the character and the application of wireless sensor networks, the request of routing protocols in wireless sensor networks is discussed, several classical routing protocols in wireless sensor networks are analyzed, technology of application developing based on TinyOS in wireless sensor networks is presented in details. The software of the wireless cell of Sink node has been designed and developed. The application program of ordinary nodes and the routing protocol TREES have been designed and implemented. The application testing of the wireless cell of Sink node, the serial communication module testing, the application testing of ordinary nodes and the routing protocol TREES testing have been accomplished on Mica2dot nodes. The system testing is based on the self-test of every layer. The interface testing and the system testing on the ordinary node and the wireless cell of Sink node, the system testing among the wired cell of Sink node, the wireless cell of Sink node and ordinary nodes, the system testing among the IPv6 Web server, the Sink node and ordinary nodes, the performance testing of the whole system on the physical platform which is developed independently have already been completed. The improved means which are used to solve problems appeared in the testing course have been presented, and the performance of the whole system has been improved. To aim at wireless sensor networks model in which nodes can move, there are multi-Sink, asymmetry and unreliable links, the application background of wireless sensor networks on which all the ordinary nodes have periodic traffic to send, the simple trees-based routing protocol MSUTR has been designed. Simulation results show that MSUTR achieves better performance in terms of control overhead, delay, packet delivery ratio and the support of the node moving compared with AODV.
