Strap machinery driven by traction motor is a very effective way to convey a bulk materiel. This kind of machinery has been used by the Power plant of Jiujiang Filiale of China Petrochemical Corp to convey coal powder. However, there are a lot of problems in this system. It is not highly automatic and intelligentized, its motor protection is inadequate, and its startup and stop modes are stiff. In addition, it lacks interlocking protection mechanism and its monitoring on the spot is not perfect. Therefore, it is urgent for Jiujiang Petrochemical to carry technology reform so as to solve those problems.This paper introduces the working flow of strap machinery conveying coal powder and points out some concrete problems to be solved. Guided by the designing principles and developing procedures of the industry computer control system, this paper also designs a scheme to ameliorate the protection of the strap machinery. The major work of this project is to develop the Monitoring and Protection meter for the motor. The 32 bit digital signal process chip TMS320F2812 is introduced to the market by TI Corp recently. This meter is used as the core of the control & monitoring processor and it can monitor on line the voltage, current, temperature, rotating speed and vibration. In particular, by conducting FFT frequency analysis of the vibration signals, this meter can basically diagnoses the types of the motor faults. The hardware structure of the whole strap protection system is made up of upper industry computer, motor protection meter, PLC and executive devices. The meter software is developed by C language. The monitoring software of upper computer chooses Kingview as the develop software.The ameliorated straps system has met the requirements of the design and has been put into use. The automatization and intelligentization level of the traps system have been improved. Developed meter has the bright market.
