This article introduces a network monitoring system, which is based on 32-bit embeddedmicroprocessor S3C4510B made in SAMSUNG. The main functions of the system includeFault Checking and Location, Traffic Statistic, Intrusion Detection.The system is composed of a centralized managing computer and distributed checkingengines. The checking engines are dispersedly fixed in the monitored network where they canbe accessed by IP. They take charge of gathering the network status and transmitting theinformation to the managing computer. The managing computer is the core of the monitoringsystem, and takes charge of judging the status of the network, sending the controlling andalarming information by analyzing the information from checking engines.The hardware design of the checking engine is composed of functional modules that includepower circuit, reset circuit, CPU configuring module, memory module, real time clock module,network up port, switching machine module, wireless transmitting module. The softwaredesign is based on the embedded RTOS VxWorks. The software is composed of networkcommunication module, DHCP module, connection testing module, flux statistic module, datapacket filtering module, wireless transmitting module, memory module, real time clockmodule and watchdog module.The network connection is good or not depends on whether the handshake between thechecking engine and the managing computer is successful or not. Analyzing the network dataframe can get the information for flux statistic. And the intrusion detection is based on therelating graph.Even if the monitored network can't work well, the fault information still can be sending tothe manager because the system imports the wireless alarming, so that the fault can bemaintained in time.The reasons resulting in the SI problem during PCB design, and the method to resolving it,also are discussed in the article.
