People take great interest in cardio fitness equipments for health reasons nowadays. A steady embedded control system is necessary for a cardio fitness equipment to control motors and display parameters. MCU, which is the representative of low cost and high reliability, has always been widely used as cardio fitness equipment control IC. Home and business using low or middle level cardio fitness equipments are developed by MCU for a long period. The technology is widely used but it is lack of recreation, interaction and expansibility.The development of fitness equipments and the application of embedded technology have close relationship. And the SOPC will have great applications in the fitness equipment field. The thesis aims at exploiting new type cardio fitness equipments based on FPGA which can lighten the difficulty of the research and heighten the recreation.The main research work of the thesis contains as follows: Aiming at the lack of recreation and interaction of cardio fitness equipments, the project of cardio fitness control system with multiple recreational functions based on FPGA technology is presented. Then with the analysis of high level cardio fitness equipments, recreational video playing and interactive VR(Virtual Reality) are adopted. The main project design and some functions like fitness control and OSD have been carried out. The thesis mainly completes the design of software and parts of hardware. The hardware design is based on FPGA, combining peripheral circuits and ICs to build the hardware system. The software design includes logic designs inside FPGA and Nios II control programs. Programs are designed, compiled and debugged in Quartus II and Nios II IDE. The implementation object is cardio fitness equipment. Functions including collection of video and audio signals, conversion of analog to digital, OSD, conversion of digital video signal to analog, VGA-out display etc. are developed. To achieve the fitness function, the system offers several digital and impulse signal inputs/outputs, serial communications means to control the motor and transducer. A complete control system for recreational cardio fitness equipments is carried out.With concrete engineering application background, the thesis takes the research of cardio fitness equipment control system based on FPGA and achieves the functions of multimedia display and OSD in the fitness system innovatively. The contents of the thesis have some innovation and practicability in modern cardio fitness equipments field.
