Nutrition is the material foundation for human health. The middle school studentsare in the age of adolescence. During this age, students grow and develop rapidly, andthey have heavy load on study. Therefore, special attention should be paid to theirnutrition and eating behavior in this age. Results of recent literature suggest that thenutritional status of students in the middle and the primary schools is not satisfactory yet,Now people improve nutrition status with nutrition recipe or nutrition education singly,and available student nutrition software have less direction so far.Objectives Discovering nutrition deficient of middle school students by questionnaire,developing nutrition guidance software, observing its applying consequence, and settingup primary nutrition guidance system for middle school students.Methods(1) Designed questionnaire, and used it for surveying nutrition knowledge, attitude,practice(KAP) of 293 grade one students in a certain junior high school. Collected thedata on their stature and avoirdupois measured when they were enrolled in school, andevaluated physique status according to the Standard on Consitution Health for Studentissued by Ministry of Education and State Physical Culture Administration in 2002.Chose six indexes to measure physical ability situation, including stature, avoirdupois,vital capacity, grip strength, step examination and standing long jump.(2) Using tools and programming language for software development to develop nutritionsoftware for middle school students from five aspects, which comprises of nutritionsurvey, nutrition recipe, nutrition knowledge, data management and system maintenance.Making use of nutrition calculator V1.6 and nutrition guidance software respectively toanalyze dietary data on obesity adolescent from a body building club.(3) Based on the nutrition guidance software, established the framework of nutrition guidance system for middle school students with three aspects of nutrition monitoring,nutrition education and nutrition recipe and observed its pilot application effects.Results(1) The objects were lack of nutrition knowledge, the pass rate (reach 60% of totalscores )was only 36.0%. Nutrition attitude results were acceptable, the pass rate was96.8%. However, there were 30.7% objects didn't believe that rational nutrition washelpful to their study, and 36.7% had no interest in learning nutrition knowledge. Thepass rate of nutrition practice was 77.7%, but the excellent rate (reach 80% of total scores)was merely 31.4%. Among them, 78.4% had dietary bias, 64.3% liked eating salt richedfoods, 51.6% prefered to eat foods which were rich in edible oil, 78.1% hadn't eatteneggs every day, 42.8% hadn't drunk milk every day, 44.5% had snacks more than threetimes every week, and the most sorts of snacks were ice cream, chocolate and other sweetfood. Besides, 39.3% liked sprite, coke and other carbonated beverages. Physical statusresults showed that the weight of 29.0% objects were normal, 62.0% were thelower weights and the lowest weights and 9.0% were overweight and obese.The students' physical ability situation was moderate to substandard. Among them, only2.0% were in the excellent level, 39.9% were fine, 56.1% were passing and 2.0% werebelow standard.(2) Nutrition guidance software that specialized to middle school students had beendeveloped, which had five parts including nutrition survey, nutrition recipe, nutritionknowledge, data administration and system maintenance. A nutrition reading namedNutrition ABC to Middle School Students had been compiled and put into nutritionknowledge. This new software was characterized by multifunction, flexibility,practicality and direction, because the evaluation criterion could be modified according torequirements, and the common nutrition problems in middle school students wereinclusive. Analyzing dietary data on obese adolescents which collected from a bodybuilding club with nutrition calculator V1.6 and nutrition guidance software respectively,the result showed that it could be deemed a same computational consequence on nutrientsintake if there was no influence of decimal remaining number of bits.(3) The primary nutrition guidance system was constructed on the fundament of abovesoftware. After applying this system to objects, the pass rate of nutrition knowledgeincreased from 36.4% to 82.7%, and their excellent rate increased from 5.5% to 19.1%,and both had significant difference(x~2 is 121.164 and 23.303respectively, P<0.01).Therewere no significant difference between pre-intervention and post-intervention in nutritionattitude and nutrition practice. Conclusion(1) The nutrition guidance software developed by topic group was featured withmultifunction, flexibility, practicality and direction, and it can use for nutritionguarantee to middle school students.(2) The primary nutrition guidance system established by topic group could use forincreasing nutrition knowledge of students.
