On The Present Situation And Further Development Of Podcasting In China

Podcasting was born in the US in 2004, and spread to China in the beginning of the next year. It is not only one kind of new technology, which broadcasts video and audio programs by internet, and allows users to subscribe, automatic download, and synchronized to digital player, but also a typical media in the Web2.0 system. Podcasting is influenced and changed by the national condition in the process of localization in China, and the appearance is broad sense podcasting and narrow sense podcasting. Podcasting is developing with a high speed in China, on the contrary, it isn't draw much attention from Chinese scholars. The quantity of academic material is not much, and most of them are concept introduction, whose viewpoints are quite scattered. Because of the lack of academic research, there isn't enough theory as instruction in the developing process of podcasting in China. As a result, the development of podcasting in China appears blind and the disordered to a certain degree.In this article, the author takes the explanation of the complete connotation ofpodcasting as the breakthrough point, and takes the broad sense podcasting as the object of study, bases on the Chinese national condition, and discusses the present situation and further development of podcasting in China. The author also makes great effort to eliminate the misunderstanding of podcasting, and makes the contribution for exploiting the application value and theories research of podcasting in China. This article bases on the foundation of former research, and draws the conclusion by using the method of quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis. On one hand, according to the analysis the quantity change of podcasts in different times in China, it obtains the conclusion of macroscopic trend of podcasting development in China; on the other hand, basing on the research of typical podcast website, podcaster, and the podcasting practicing experience of the author, it summarizes the current characteristics of podcasting in China as well as the problems. And then, taking the podcasting overseas as example, it discusses the trend of further development and the profit pattern in China, and at last, calls for attention of the negative effects which could be brought by the development of podcasting.
