In this thesis, a simulation experiment platform is built, which is used for studying automatic pilot control algorithm and flight property of small UAV. Before flight-test, a lot of measurement will be done in the simulation system. Flight rules and flight capability estimate could be researched in the simulation experiment platform. So the control method is mastered, but also the risk and the cost are reduced.3D flying simulation is realized with 3D modeling software, Graphic Library and visual development tools in this thesis. Firstly, the UAV model is made with 3D modeling software (3DS MAX), and it is converted to C code of OpenGL with a translation software. The UAV model is put in the project and showed on the screen with OpenGL functions. The control and showing of the UAV model, the simulation of 3D scene, combinability of scene and model are realized with coordinates conversion, scene render, graphic drawing and double buffer functions of OpenGL in VC++ development environment.In addition, the output data of remote control signals receiving board is analyzed, and the communication protocol between PC and the receiving board is designed and realized with MSComm. So the UAV model is controlled with remote control data from serial port. During the design, the characteristic of easily modeling in 3DS MAX and the characteristic of efficient functions in OpenGL are utilized. 3DS MAX and OpenGL are combined efficiently in VC++ development environment, which is easy for the simulation software is updated and transplanted. A good base for studying automatic pilot control algorithm of small UAV is built with the design of this thesis.
