The transmission characteristics of microring resonator are analyzed by opticalwaveguide and coupled-mode theory, it shows that the transmission spectrum of microringresonator depends much more on two important factors, i.e. the coupling efficient, and roundtrip loss, several structures of the microring resonator such as are also introduced, and theseoffer the theoretical basis for design of microring resonator.Two simulation methods for microring resonator (i.e. FDTD and BPM) are introduced.For FDTD method, the influence of the simulation time and numerical dispersion onsimulation results is analyzed, so the general principle to set the time step and gird size isgiven. For BPM method, the idea behind the design of the microring resonator is introduced,the characteristics of curved-waveguide and the method of calculating coupling efficiency andpropatation loss are analyzed, and finally the characteristics of microring resonator is obtained.By comparing the two methods, it is concluded that FDTD is more suitable for simulation ofmicroring resonator of small scale and BPM is more suitable for microring resonator of largescale.The film preparation and optical properties of photonic polymer PPESK is investigated.The influence of solvent hydrophilicity and volatility on film quality is analyzed. A goodwaveguide film with homogeneous thickness and identical refractive index is fabricated. Theoptical properties of PPESK and fluorinated PPESK film, including refractive index,birefringence, thermal-optical coefficient and optical loss, are measured and characterized. Itis shown that PPESK is a promising photonic polymer material due to its fine opticalperformance.The film preparation of another kind of polymer PSQ is investigated, the influence ofsolvent volatility on film quality is analyzed, a good waveguide film is obtained and theoptical properties are measured. The curing process of PSQ-Ls (liquid state) is investigatedemphatically, by optimizing the curing condition, the PSQ-Ls could have a low optical loss,the method of tuning the refractive index is also investigated, and it shows that the PSQ-Ls isa promising photonic polymer material.This paper finally designs the polymer microring resonator based on PSQ-Ls material.The design includes different kinds of buried mircoring resonator and some testing structures.By optimizing the waveguide width, the radius of the ring, the gap and the coupling length,the microring resonator with the smallest insertion loss and the largest extinction ratio could be obtained.
