Microring resonator is a key building block in photonics devices. Due to its compact structure, wavelength selectivity and high Q-factor, it could be used to construct several functional devices, e.g. optical add-drop multiplexer, modulator, optical switch, optical delay line and bio-chemical sensor. So far, most photonic devices are all based on inorganic material. Though the devices have the advantages of low loss and high stability, the complex fabrication technology has limited its widespread. Polymer material is emerging as an important alternative to conventional silica-based material. The fabrication could be simplified by nano-imprint technology, so the cost could be lowered down meet economic criteria. This thesis consists of two part of work. The first part includes the theory of microring resonator (chapter 1), the simulation of microring resonator (chapter 3) and the design of PSQ-L based microring resonator (chapter 3).The other part of the work involves around the investigation of the optical properties of polymer PPESK. It first introduces the principle of prism coupler and gives the experimental results. Then it focuses on the film-making of the PPESK film. The factors that influence the uniformity of film are analysed and high quality PPESK film is abtained. The optical properties of fluorated-PPESK are also investigated. The optical properties of thermal-curable Fst-PPESK are investigated and the curing technology is studied.
