With the advent of global information technology, people demand more and more the amount of information. Providing people with high-capacity broadband communications network is a modern communication network development trend. WDM technology dramatically increases the transmission capacity of optical fiber, optical filters in WDM systems as a key device has been very widely used. This article is proposed a novel fiber filter based on microring, using beam propagation method to simulate and analysis the device's filter characteristics, the number of structure parameters on filter characteristics were studied. Finally, optimize parameters and design a multi-wavelength filter and its 3dB bandwidth of between 5nm-20nm, respectively, and a high filtering efficiency, the highest up to 98%.ChapterⅠof this issue involving the theoretical basis and research background are reviewed. First, a brief review of the development of optical fiber communication, and pointed out the modern fiber-optic communications to meet the development trend of WDM technology, optical fiber filters are widely used. Then mainly on an overview of microring resonators, introducing microring resonator the basic structure, the development at home and abroad research. Finally, the article discusses the main contents and innovations.ChapterⅡdescribes the basis of microring resonator theory. Introduce details of the single straight waveguide and the parallel waveguide microring resonator theory, as well as several important performance parameters.ChapterⅢis an important part of this paper. Based on plane microring resonator filter, it is mainly proposed a fiber filter with novel device structures, and using beam propagation method to numerical simulation and analysis.ChapterⅣis reviewed the full text. According to some reports, some ideas of the future research work are offered.
