A Digital Selective Calling (DSC) Terminal is one of the important communication facilities in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS). Presently all the large vessels sailing at sea shall be equipped with this sort of facilities. For the purpose of ensuring the safety of life and property, each seaman must familiarize himself with the operational procedures.In the process of GMDSS training service, the utilization of real ship equipment induces high training cost and low grouping rate, and consequences could be serious if false alerts were transmitted. The simulator training can be used to solve these problems effectively. The digital selective calling simulation system described by this thesis is one of the important component parts within the whole GMDSS simulation training system. Basically the practical training requirements can be met by means of this calling simulation training provided by this system.At the beginning this thesis introduced and analyzed related technologies; then the functional requirements for the DSC simulator training and other functional requirements of the simulation training system were analyzed. Furthermore, the holistic system design was given, and methods of simulation, system structures, functional modules, and databases table were elaborated. Consequently, the design and implementation of principal functional modules of the system was described in detail, which included means of realizing simulator training, screen monitoring, record and re-play of operation etc, and marking of the simulated operation. Finally the installation and usage of the system were explained.The DSC simulation training system described by the thesis has been primarily put into application at one shipping college for teaching and training students majoring in maritime related programs. The functions provided by this simulation system and means of marking for operations were unanimously affirmed by teaching staff and students. The methods of simulation introduced by this thesis can be regarded as a reference for the design of analogue simulation training system.
