Economic Information daily, inaugurated on July Ist. 1981 in Beijing, is one of the core newspapers sponsored by the Xinhua News Agency. Early named "Economic Refereaces", the newspaper was entitled by Deng Xiaoping in 1990 as "Economic Information" which lasts hitherto. Based on the news gathering network composed of reporters all over the world, Economic Information daily commits itself to strengthen communication and broaden readers' vision. It focuses on China's reform, opening-up and economic development, and used to be the most popular economic newspaper second only to Economic Daily in the 1980s.This thesis takes Economic Information daily as the research object, China's reform and opening-up as the social background. In the first chapter, I give a description and analysis to how Economic Information daily came into being in the market-economy society, how it realized its purpose of collecting information and serving China's development, how it created 78 million copies of the highest circulation and how the previous editors in chief influenced its development.In the second chapter, I will study the main content of Economic Information Daily, including the layout, news reports, commentaries and supplements. The news reports in Economic Information daily distinguish themselves by touching the truth (or, playing touch ball), holding a strong sense of information, and commenting serious topics in a causal way or petty news in instructive method appropriately, and thus enhance their authority and citable value. Commentaries usually have clear points, placing the news in a long-term view and paying attention to the influence on public opinion. The style of writing is vivid and simplifying from complexity, emphasizing inspiring readers' interests and tailoring to readers' need.The third chapter introduces the three historic reform Economic information daily experienced when China's media environment undergoes tremendous changes: In the mid-1980s, the space was expanded and the amount of information increased; In the early 1990s, the layout of the newspaper changed and its production program was improved; And in the 21st century, a completely fresh layout was adopted and a full re-employment preformed. From the horizontal and vertical comparison, an examination is made in this thesis on how the newspaper became "the executive leader of the age", and how it turned into comedown while the economic media blossoms everywhere in China. After that constructive suggestions will be put forward for the future progress of the newspapers.The overview, the detailed study and the introspection to the reform of the newspaper are unified to constitute the framework of this thesis. Through investigating some basic problems of Economic Information in the social background, technical process and internal content, collecting various literatures and reviewing the newspaper's growing-up and going-down, I seek to explore some possible significance which is instructive for the traditional economic Newspapers to inherit their excellent already-formed mode and meanwhile re-identify themselves in the market.
