As a narrative medium of images, television can magically turn all kinds of fresh elements from life into narrative texts. This explains the reason why recently the study of narrative theory also puts their eyes upon mass media, especially television. The introduction of narrative theory into television study helps to enrich television study, which is often confined to sociology criticism. The narrative texts television provide feature their inclusiveness in narrative media, narrative contexts and their dependence on narrative skills. This also proves the necessity to study television programs in light of narrative theories. This paper aims to apply narrative theories to the study of popular TV talk-show programs, particularly those that have a focus on"story". This paper is to discuss usual narrative models and characteristics of TV talk show programs in order to shed some lights on how to better improve the programs'quality.TV talk show programs usually have two different focuses, one is topic and the other is story. This paper will focus its discussion on the latter and study its narrative models and features. The study will be based on case studies of two well-known TV talk show programs,"Yang Lan One on One"and"The Lu Yu Show". The study covers the frame, persons, tempo, the role of both geuests and hosts and the function of affliated elements in the narration of stories.Textual analysis involves certain statistics and detailed analysis to make a persuasive conclusion for the paper. The paper also tries to offer some advice on narrative methods and skills, which is meaningful in both theoretical study and practical applications.
