Water has become one of the most important resources for mankind in the world, and now deficiency of water is a serious factor that affects the development of ourcountry. Meanwhile, leak of the water-supply network in many cities is very serious. So it is meaningful to improve the searching and locating leak technique.By estimating the time delay of the two sensors, the correlation instrument forpipeline leak detection based on DSP could easily achieve the work of searching andlocating the leak. With the characteristics of high accuracy, low power consumption, simple operation, the correlation instrument is now widely used. In present, however, the instruments used in our country are almost imported from abroad, the cost is high, and the operation is relatively complex, so it is necessary to research the system byourselves. The principle of the correlation system for pipeline leak detection system ispresented in this paper, and a experimental correlation system which based onTMS320VC5410 is also designed, including the hardware, acoustic signal acquisitionprogram, and time delay estimation program. In addition, the applications ofcorrelation algorithms in leak detection and their implementations technology areanalyzed, with emphasis on the principles of the linear, cyclic and fast correlation fortime delay estimation, and their implementations and applications based on DSP.Moreover, the applications of the Generalized Correlation Method for Estimation ofTime delay in pipe leak detection and it's simulation with MATLAB are introducedtoo. In the end, the simulation results shows that the methods analyzed in this paper could be implemented with DSP, and all the programs developed in this paper couldbe applied in the practice.
