Considering the shortcomings of the classical C/S model of multimedia streaming, and the limitation of studying heterogeneity of current P2P Streaming technology, this paper presents a new transmission method HTT (Heterogeneity-aware Transmission Technology) for P2P Streaming in heterogeneous networks.Current P2P streaming models are mostly based on homogenous network environment, which are not suitable for the real heterogeneous network environment. Peers in real networks are different in many aspects, such as network bandwidth, online time, CPU capability, memory capacity and so on. HTT can describe heterogeneous environment efficiently. Peers in HTT are clustered in a hierarchy administrative structure. Based on the heterogeneity information collected by peers, HTT can optimize transmission topology to improve the efficiency and stabilization of the system.By exchanging and analyzing the information of neighbors, and maintaining a flow relay table, HTT can detect those low-efficient and redundant links, which can help to decrease the mismatching between the P2P overlay and the physical underlying network, and to improve the QoS of the multicast system.Simulation results show that the new method HTT is effective and scalable in P2P streaming services.
