Kinds of streaming media technologies are presented, Unicast,IP multicast,Peer-to-Peer or Application Layer Multicast(ALM) are the major modalities in the media streaming transmission. Unicast is adaptable, but it hard to scale; IP multicast is the most effective transmission method in scale, but it has not been used widely for some reasons of technology and non-technology; the replace scenario is ALM or P2P method, but it replicates in the terminal, transmit with single point, etc, which bring some problems, such as: delay, jitter and transmission efficiency.The future Internet would be a heterogeneous and confluent one, and the media streaming transmission need the best adaptability and expansibility. Aim at these, we brought forward a self-adaptive multicast transmission scenario(AMVS), which combined IP multicast and P2P, exerting their advantage with each other for suiting the complex and dynamic Internet. In this paper, we focus on the research of a hybrid architecture that integrates both IP and P2P, to improve the scalability and durative of IP multicast., at the verge of IP multicast, we added P2P transmission and the derivation IP multicast for assistant, and also used the layer coding video to achieve the large scale self-adaptive serve of media streaming transmission.In this paper, we investigated the root-source IP multicast media system, which was a part of the AMVS system, and then, advanced an integer design scenario, which includes IP multicast layer, multicast manage layer and P2P transimit module. In this system, P2P transmit module is the complement and extention for IP multicast, and affords the adaptive ability,durative and stability. Multicast manage layer takes charge the implement efficiently with the mix pattern of IP multicast and P2P. At the same time, in order to afford the P2P serve more efficiency, based on the users' network status or handware capability, we advanced the conception of the rank users, and divided the P2P serve peers into three ranks, which afforded the serve with priority. The rank users were controlled and maintained by the P2PList module, and adjusted them dynamically.At last, we used the NS2 to emulate the merics of root-source IP multicast. The result showed that it achieved the request of design, absording the advantages of IP multicast and P2P, and this system was adaptive.
