With three-decade development, computer storage technologies have emerged from DAS, NAS to SAN storage structure. Storage programs of DAS and.NAS exist single failure and performance bottlenecks, and the emergence of SAN has tremendously impelled applications of data integration to enterprise fields,However, there are some faultiness existing in SAN structure mainly due to fiber channel technical problems and lack of direct support of the present network. So a new challenge may be proposed to storage structure.In the model of Intelligent Network Disk(IND) storage system raised by the paper, All INDs separate from Client and Server,and form a storage group which connects to Ethernet network directly through network link equipment. To external users, the group is a simple single storage with only one accessing address; however, it comprises many INDS inside to achieve one job by their mutual cooperation. Each IND connects to network through an interface, so internet users can visit files stored in IND through this interface. In this structure, many functions are achieved through interfaces, which make interfaces become the study focus of this thesis.The paper briefly outlines the concept, presents development and prospects of embedded systems and made hardware selection for IND interface firstly, which chose S3C44B0X as embedded microprocessor. Then some commonly used embedded operating systems are introduced and uCLinux was chosen as the embedded operating system of IND. A detailed analysis is conducted to study the Embedded uCLinux, including both kernel and starting process study of it. The clipping method of uCLinux kernel is also introduced in this study. The transplant of uCLinux was a key point of the paper. A cross compile environment for host-board should be built, and then Bootloader and uCLinux is transplanted. Finally, distributed file system of IND is focused researched.Through the paper our study and design have overcome the traditional program of the storage performance bottleneck and single failure. the paper presents a new system architecture—IND, and constructs the platforms of IND article hardware and the embedded operating system.The further study is also discussed in the paper.
