Nowadays, the modern wireless communications is challenged with a limited radio frequency spectrum and a complex time-varying wireless transmission environment which mainly refers to fading and multipath. With an increasing demand for a higher data rate, better service quality, fewer dropped calls, higher network capacity and user coverager system, there comes some innovative techniques that can improve the spectral efficiency and transmission reliability. The use of multiple antennae at the receiver and transmitter in a wireless system, popularly known as MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) wireless is one of the most effective and feasible techniques among them. A growing acknowledgment of the performance gains from MIMO technology has spurred the insertion of this technology into wireless standards, notably the mobile standards such as UMTS and CDMA 2000. MIMO techniques are also under study in IEEE 802.16 and 802.11 standards for fixed and WLAN applications respectively. When it comes to some typical and special communication environments such as a tunnel, underground parking, mine and jail, where bear a rough inner wall that can reflect, absorb and block the radio wave. As a result, the radio signal can hardly transmit or the transmission distance of the signal cannot reach the requirement, but ensuring the communication quality within those special environments is very important, and fortunately, the commuication systemn based on leaky coxial cable can lead an easy and effective way out. Considering that the unique features of MIMO technology and the revolution affection it had brought to the traditional communication systems, MIMO technology will be applied to the communication system based on leaky coxial cable for the first time in this thesis in order to get a further quality improvement of the system. A practical scheme of an improved leaky coxial cable which relies on MIMO technique is presented, then the mutipath channel modeling is done and simulation is used to verify the feasibility and effectiveness.
