The Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology is the most promising breakthroughs in improving system performance, capacity and spectrum efficiency. The performance promised by MIMO is highly depended on the propagation channel models. So the corresponding MIMO radio channel models are established to study and evaluate the system performance. At the beginning of this thesis, the characters of radio fading channels, such as large-scale fading and small-scale fading, are introduced. The methods of channel modeling including the correlation-based one and the ray-based one are also described. Furthermore, the spatial channel model which is developed by 3GPP is analyzed. Based on this original channel model, an improving method for the channel coefficients which can support crossed polarized antenna pattern in the light-of-sight scenario is proposed. SCME channel model which is an extension model of SCM channel model, and WINNER channel model which can support many different scenarios are also presented. What's more, the spatial channel model characters, such as resolvable path, delay spread and angle spread, under macrocell scenarios and microcell scenarios are compared. Finally, the spatial-temporal correlation properties and eigenvalue distribution of the spatial channel model are studied, and the relation between channel correlation, angel spread, antenna spacing and eigenvalue distribution is given. Besides, the effect of channel correlation on MIMO system capacity through the aspect of angle spread, antenna configuration and diversity is well analyzed through simulations.
