With the development of science and technology and the progress of thesociety, the wireless communication play a more and more important role inpeople’s daily life. At present, the scarcity of spectrum resources restricts thedevelopment of wireless communication, and the technique MIMO antenna usespace resources, which can break Shannon channel capacity limit providereliable and high rate data transmission environment, has become the hot spotof research. Usually, the researchers extracted by the relevant characteristicsof the channel, and then simulate various characteristics of the channel in thelaboratory.Researthing the MIMO channel through real environment directly will beinfluenced by various external interference. The investment of time and effortis also great. Usually, the researchers extracted by the relevant characteristicsof the channel, and then simulate various characteristics of the channel in thelaboratory, it is convenient for testing and debugging. channel simulator is anindispensable tool in MIMO channel research.The design of channel simulator can be realized through software or ahigh speed hardware. At present, most researchers are using MATLAB tosimulate the MIMO channel, due to the flexibility and low threshold ofMATLAB, researchers can easily carry out the design and simulation of MIMOchannel, but the simulation speed is relatively low, can not be real-timesimulation of channel by MATLAB simulation. Some researchers use DSP(Digital Singnal Processor), FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) and otherhardware to achieve the MIMO channel emulator. Due to the high speedoperation of hardware, the simulator can not only guarantee the real-timechannel simulation, but also can reflect the actual environment noise,influence of interference, which makes the simulation results more real. Butbecause of the complexity of MIMO channel and a large number of fixed-pointor floating-point arithmetic needs, implementation based on hardware takesgreat cost. This paper made a compromise between cost and real-time simulation,used software to design and implement MIMO channel modeling, and usedhardware to achieve the operational which demand larger modules, such asFFT algorithm and convolution. Thus, MIMO channel simulator was designedto control the cost on the one hand, on the other hand, it can also reflect thetrue channel environment.This paper based on statistical model (Correlation-Based StochasticModels, CBSM) to establish the MIMO channel model. Through the computer,RS232serial port and Altera FPGA (EP4CE15F17C8)to design and implementMIMO wireless channel simulator. After that, this paper used the networkanalyzer to measure MIMO channel simulator, results of which showed thatthe model simulator channel can simulate the parameters of channel, reproducethe wireless channel frequency correlation and spatial correlationcharacteristics.
