As the service load of Internet grows explosively, all-optical network must become an important part of the next generation network. Optical Burst Switch is a newly proposed method for building up an all-optical network with high performance and low cost.OBS network is composed of Edge Nodes and Core Nodes. Data bursts are switched in core nodes and routed according to the information included in the control frames for configuring the all-optical path for the data bursts. The hardware design of the core code in OBS network is studied in this paper. Combing the practical experience of the author, the architecture of core node, chip selection, interconnection of all modules, testing of main control board and the OXC, are described in detail. The whole system is tested after the design. The problems in this design are also discussed and many approaches for optimizing circuit and system are put forward. The paper begins with a general overview of the OBS network and the key technologies as well as the architecture of the OBS testbed. This OBS testbed is composed of three edge nodes and four core nodes. After the introduction to core code, the design of main control unit of the core is described in detail, including the hardware architecture, IC selection, interconnection between modules, PCB design and testing. At the same time some suggestions for improvement are proposed in this paper. A detailed design and analysis of OXC is presented in this paper, including the design of matrix driven modules, the driver circuit, testing and so on. At last, not only a summary and evaluation about the limitations of this testbed but also some expectations for the future are concluded.
