Network Simulation technology is accompanied by the creation of network, network simulation can create virtual network equipment, link and protocol model, and simulated network traffic transmitted, obtain necessary to optimize network design and network performance data.Network Simulation System constructs a virtual network environment which possesses the characteristics of controllable and repeatable network conditions. This makes it possible to predict the correctness and performance of novel network protocols, services, applications and control algorithms before deploying them to Internet. The content of the paper comes from a sub-project of a German project 2MN (Modules for the Multimedia Network-based Higher Education)—NetSim. NetSim is an interactive simulation environment/ tool designed for TCP/IP networks teaching and training. The design and development of network simulation software is a very complicated systematic project, involving simulation methodology, network protocol analysis, software engineering and other aspects of the content.First, this article briefly introduces the basic theory of modeling and simulation methods for discrete event system simulation. Next it talks about the design and implementation of some MAC layer protocol modules based on the NetSim system, including:The design and implementation of Spanning Tree Protocol in NetSim.The design and implementation of VLAN in NetSim.Spanning Tree Protocol and Virtual LAN Bridge play important role in bridge, they can help avoiding network broadcast storm. Currently, the above modules have been finished and can work properly in NetSim, which makes the NetSim system more valuable.
