With the increasing concern of the safety from the public ,it's forcefully required to carry out safety assessment in process industry .HAZOP(hazard and operability ) is one of the most widely used techniques among the process hazard assessment methods especially in chemical industry.Recently, Based the development of computational technology, the automatic computer based HAZOP becomes practicable. Limitations that once force us to use time-consuming methods and produce poor-adequate results are being replaced by efficient software tools that can give us more convenience. This paper illuminates the developmental processes leading to software tools for performing HAZOP, including two stages. At the computer-aided stage ,the analysis and comparison is listed out in software framework and function module; at the second stage , the advance of intelligent computer-automated HAZOP is outlined ,especially focusing on and inference engine.Based on HAZOP analysis theory and SDG auto-modeling strategy, the design method and the realization of oriented object software assessment system are mainly introduced, the principle of constructing assessment system are analyzed, and the improving ideas are also put forward. According to its steps and requirement, we introduce modularized, graphical, layered information integration architecture of HAZOP. This architecture is described using UML (Unified Modeling Language) based on object orient programming (OOP). During the developing process, we use Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and take full advantage of C++ language so as to realize mainly functions of assessment platform, such as function module ,interface ,data storage and software internationalization.
