The 3G user interface is"the carrier"when the user experiences the 3G service , whether the design of user interface is fit or unfit will affect the development of the 3G's future directly. With the customization of 3G mobile phone, the operator, manufacturer, even the third-party software/ content provider directly involve the research and development process of mobile phone which has completely changed the traditional process. Accordingly, how to coordinate these sides to complete the research and development of the mobile terminal will become an inevitable problem. This paper mainly researches on method and process for the user interface design of 3G mobile phone. Firstly, this paper makes a study of various essential factors of the 3G mobile user surface, then carries on the comparison and the analysis with the life cycle model of user interface and the method of user centered design. Based on that, I propose a process for the user interface design of 3G mobile phone combined with the characteristics of the customization of 3G mobile phone. The process need user centered design and participating design together with the manufacturer, operator, the third-party software/ content provider. This process changed the design and development way of traditional mobile user interface. It has fully displayed the superiority of the operator, manufacturer, third-party software / content provider. It could design better the user interface of 3G mobile phone which has truly satisfied the consumer's demand.China will provide the 3G service soon in 2008. I hope this design process can provide the reference and model for Chinese operator and mobile manufacturer when they design the 3G mobile user interface.
