With the development of furniture and mould manufacturing, there are more and more needs for the engraving and milling CNC in domestic market. Compare with the traditional manufacturing, the engraving and milling CNC should have higher ability of dealing with the small segments to ensure the high-speed and accuracy. At the same time the c should have friendly interface and compatible ability of CAD/CAM.According to the reasons above, we designed the high-speed digital engraving and milling CNC based on PC. We use a modularized scheme to develop the CNC function and use axes-controlling unit +PC to develop the CNC structure. We designed total digitalized axes-controlling unit and I/O unit based on FPGA to realize digital pulse Servo interface and machine electric interface.At first, this paper introduces the development situation and trend of the engraving and milling CNC in domestic and international market. So we established the design target of the engraving and milling CNC. And next the paper introduced the general design structure of the engraving and milling CNC.The following is the key content of this paper , the design of total digitalized axes-controlling unit. At first, the paper introduced the principle and designing method of FPGA and introduced the software Quartus II 4.0 and the VHDL language. Then emphases introduced the design idea and realization method of total digitalized axes-controlling unit and I/O unit.At last, the paper introduced the function test and validate of the engraving and milling CNC.This subject is the sub-subject of knowledge innovation project of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the period of the State's Tenth Five-Year Plan that is open and intelligent systematic platform of numerical control. The project is applied to production and sale.
